RUSSELL RELEASES MEALY MOUNTAINS PARK AGREEMENT
LABRADOR, February 10, 2010 — Labrador M.P. Todd Russell today released the Memorandum of Understanding between the federal and provincial governments concerning the future Mealy Mountains National Park Reserve.
“At last week’s announcement, the two governments did not release their agreement or the proposed park reserve boundaries map,” Russell said. “I feel it is important to inform the public and to make sure we have a full and open discussion about the shape and direction of the future park. This is why I am making the full text and map available on my website today.”
The Memorandum of Understanding, including the map, is available on-line at www.toddrussell.ca
“Last week’s federal-provincial agreement was an important step on the road towards protecting this portion of Labrador for future generations,” Russell said. “However, we must recognize that it is one step of many yet to come. I encourage everyone in Labrador to review the documentation, and I welcome your comments on it.”
For those without internet access, the Labrador MP will mail copies on request, and will have copies available in his constituency offices in the very near future. To request a copy by mail, Labrador residents can call, toll-free, 1-888-817-2483.
