Russell Releases Preliminary Results of Muskrat Falls Survey
OTTAWA, February 9, 2011 -- Labrador M.P. Todd Russell today released some preliminary figures from his Labrador-wide opinion survey on the proposed Muskrat Falls project. The survey began on December 8th, 2010, with surveys made available to all Labrador residents by direct mail and on-line.

Russell Supports Forteau Community Partner Site
FORTEAU, February 2, 2011 -- Labrador M.P. Todd Russell today expressed his opposition to the Conservative government's decision to close Service Canada Community Partner Sites in Atlantic Canada, including the one in Forteau in the Labrador Straits.

"Community Partner Sites provide a vital outreach service to a large number of clients throughout the area," Russell said. "The Forteau office is one of the busiest partner sites in the province. The nearest full-service offices are hundreds of kilometres away. This geographical reality is exactly why partner sites were established in the first place. That reality hasn't changed."

About Todd
Mr. Russell launched his political career as Chair of the student council during his years at Memorial University's Sir Wilfred Grenfell College campus. He was elected to the board of the Labrador Metis Association, now the Labrador Metis Nation, in 1992. Two years later he was elected president, a position he held until 2005. He has also served on a number of national boards.

Upon completion of high school, Mr. Russell attended Memorial University in St. John's, graduating with a bachelor of arts in history and classics. While pursuing his high school diploma and subsequent to completing his university degree, he worked on an oil tanker for two years before accepting a position as an Outreach Counsellor with the Atlantic Groundfish Strategy.

Fighting for Labrador
Mr. Russell has been a champion and strong advocate for Labrador at every political level in the country. Being of Inuit-Metis ancestry, he has a close and intimate connection to the land and its people.

Todd Russell was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Labrador in the by-election of May 24, 2005. He was re-elected in 2006 and 2008. He is presently the Critic for Aboriginal Affairs.
